Why have Nutrition & Diet for Training?

Finding the perfect routine for working out can seem daunting. It might be difficult to know what activities to do on which days in order to maximize your results. Ensuring that your body is getting the correct nutrition is just as important. You want to make sure you fuel your body appropriately before you workout, allowing enough time for the nutrients to make their way into your system. You also need to make sure your post-workout snack is full of the things that are going to help your body recover from your workout. Tackling pre and post workout nutrition with this mindset helps set you up for success in staying fit.

Pre-Workout Ideas

When you are getting ready to go for a workout, it's important to fuel your body with the correct foods in order to provide you with the stamina to keep pushing through the entire duration of your workout. Your overall goal is going to be to focus on high carb, moderate protein, and low-fat foods. Eating a lot of fat right before a workout can cause stomach issues and discomfort at the gym that will only serve to slow you down. Some great examples to eat are yogurt with fruit, a banana with peanut butter, or a granola bar.

Post-Workout Ideas

Once your workout is done you want to first make sure you rehydrate yourself. This will help prevent your body from crashing out of exhaustion. Water is the best choice for this. As far as snacking goes, this is the time to push the protein. Protein will help to restore the muscles that were broken down during your workout and prevent further injury down the road. It will also aid your body in the recovery process, which means you can be back to training sooner rather than later. Some good examples of foods to eat after your workout include eggs, lean meat, and cottage cheese.
